What does Verified by elbl mean?

The Verified by elbl badge certifies that a digital wine label created with elbl.io complies with the new wine EU Regulations and related food information laws. It means the digital label has been checked against current legal requirements and contains all the mandatory data that EU law allows to be provided electronically.

This verification applies exclusively to the digital version of the wine label accessible via QR code. It does not cover the physical front or back label printed on the bottle.

The Verified by elbl badge only refers to compliance with European Union legislation. It does not guarantee compliance with local or national laws that may apply in specific countries or regions.

Being Verified by elbl gives winemakers peace of mind: their digital label includes all legally required nutritional and ingredient information in a clear, accessible, and non-promotional format — exactly as demanded by European law.

Requirements for a label to be Verified by elbl

To receive the Verified by elbl badge, a digital label created through elbl.io must meet all applicable requirements under Regulation (EU) 2021/2117, as well as related regulations such as Regulation (EU) 2019/934 and the Food Information to Consumers (FIC) Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011.

To comply with the relevant regulations, the digital label must include the following information:

1. Product Name

The name of the product must be clearly displayed on the label. Although this requirement is not mandated by law, elbl considers it necessary for the identification of the wine.

2. Ingredients List

The label must include a complete list of ingredients, composed using the predefined options available through the "Add common ingredient" tool on elbl.io. If a custom ingredient is used, the label cannot be marked as verified by elbl, as the ingredient may not appear in Table 2 of Annex I of Regulation EU 2019/934, which lists the permitted oenological substances.

3. Nutritional Declaration

The digital label must include a fully completed nutritional table with the following values:

  • Energy (in kJ and kcal)
  • Fat, including:
  • Saturated fat
  • Carbohydrates, including:
  • Sugars
  • Protein
  • Salt

3. What Else?

Although the nutritional declaration and ingredients can be indicated on the physical label, elbl.io decides to apply the Verified by elbl mark only to digital labels that comply with the requirements outlined in the above section. This decision has been made to ensure legal compliance for wine producers and label printers.

Regarding recycling information, you must consult your local regulations, as it may be necessary to include this information. elbl.io does not assume responsibility for the omission of recycling details on the digital label.

Additionally, elbl.io wishes to emphasize that compliance is guaranteed only for the digital label, not for the physical one. We are actively working on providing a service that will allow winemakers and label printers to verify the legal validity of the physical back label.
